ABOUT TEAM 957 SWARM Robotics

FRC Team 957 SWARM Robotics is a student-led program committed to giving high school students hands-on experience in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) fields. Over the course of a six week "Build Season" students design, build, wire, program, test, calibrate, market, and compete with our fully functional robot in two qualifying tournaments in the Pacific Northwest District.

During our Outreach season, May through December, we recruit and train new team members and mentors, improve our skill set, fundraise, attend community outreach events, and work with our Community Partners.

For the past 25 years SWARM has been inspiring students to pursue STEAM careers.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

SWARM participates in a variety of community events including the Linn Country Fair, Benton County Fair, and the NW Art and Air Festival. Our team provides demonstrations at school assemblies, back to school events, and incoming freshman nights. SWARM has partnered with Albany Parks and Recreation and Jackson Street Youth Services to promote interest in STEAM and FIRST programs.

SWARM helps support several FLL (First Lego League) teams to help support and develop STEAM skills for elementary students in the Greater Albany Public Schools (GAPS) district. SWARM also supports an all girls FTC Team, 32047 Titanium Binturongs, open to all GAPS middle school female/female identifying students and FTC Team 36396 Albany Volts open to all GAPS middle school students. Additionally, SWARM works with FTC Team 24197 Aerospace at Memorial Middle School.

Founded in 1989, FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a global nonprofit (501(c)(3)) organization that prepares young people for the future through a suite of welcoming, team-based robotics programs for ages 5-18 (K-12).

SUPPORT

In addition to the design, construction, and programming of our robot for the competition, our team is self-supporting and we need to fundraise $75,000 to $100,000 each year. The funds raised by the team allow the students to design, build, market, and compete with a new robot throughout the competition season. This also supports team travel and meals during competition season for the long work and competition days.

Funding comes from generous donors; local businesses, individual contributions, grants and people like you. Without the support of sponsors, SWARM would not be able to build and compete at local qualifying events. When we qualify, District Championships and World Championships are an extra expense. Donations the team receives gives students the opportunity to excel and prepare for a future career.
